Alternate Universe

At the entrance

To my dad’s place

There is a gate

To an alternate universe

No internet

No cell phone

Total disconnection from

The World Wide Web

What you will find

Upon entry is

Lots of family and

Longtime friends

Old fashioned conversation

Love and good intentions

Laughter and fond memories

Of others who’ve passed on

I enjoyed a couple of days

In this refreshing way

When it was time to leave

Reconnect

Plug back in

Participate

In the churning machine

That runs the world

Passing back through the gate

I paused for one last glance

At the entrance

To my dad’s place

And thought to myself

There’s no “app” for this

But if there were

It might be called

Pure Bliss

It is a world I will truly miss

As I head back to my real life

And board a flight to Texas

Dear Heavenly Father,

Happy Father’s Day!

It may seem silly to some that I chose to include You in the celebration of this national holiday. The world has gotten so good at trying to exclude You from all things, please for give us for allowing even the discussion of Your exclusion to occur. Thank You for Your grace and Mercy; Your love; Your generosity; Your Word and it’s interpretation through the Bible; Your Holy Spirit dwelling in me and anyone who believes.

You have lifted me out of dark places so many times, given me hope when it seemed like all was lost, comforted me, made me laugh, and filled my heart with unspeakable joy. You have shown me that what is Yours is mine, if I believe.

Help me Lord, show me how to make You smile, show me how to fill Your heart with joy.

I love You so very much.

Amen

Bright

Shift your energy

Smile at yourself

Sing a happy song

Skip around the room

Pray for a friend

Think of God’s light

Filling your heart

Cleansing your thoughts

And before you know it

You will be feeling

Uplifted and bright

Peek-a-boo

Some mornings the sunrise plays peek-a-boo with me.

The Lago Vista hills are the perfect play-ground for this game. Thursday morning on my drive to work the sun kept peeking out but didn’t let me fully see it until I reached my office door and was about to go in. At that moment I turned one last time and the sun revealed it’s full beauty as it crested the hill across the street. We had a glorious moment together and I basked in its wonder. Amazed again at how much the Creator of all things created all things to play and experience pure joy.

Truth

Getting to the truth of a thing

It’s kind of like digging for good dirt

Sometimes the earth

Is soft and compliant

The soil is easily turned

Willingly revealing layers underneath

So easy, allowing us to

Push our hands into the dirt

Pull up clumps of weeds

Plow a path for a Spring flower trail

Sometimes the earth is hard

Unyielding

Protecting the dirt

Layering diversions

Of hard rock

Perilous gulfs of varying elevations

Deterrents to digging

Deterrents to plundering

The precious soil

Explosives

Bulldozers

Full-on destruction

We press on

Digging deeper

In search of the elusive dirt

And what happens

When we have finally found

The precious place to build

The right foundation

Was it worth it

Or is the dirt revealed too sensitive

Too raw

Too damaged

Getting to the truth

Can leave a lot of destruction in its wake

Only to reveal something

Too fragile to take

Save Me A Seat

Save me a seat

I’ll be along in a little while

The miles between us are light years

But I can still see your sweet smile

There’s a big table

Y’all are gathered round

The echoes of laughter

Make such a beautiful sound

I see Grandpa and Granny

Uncles, aunts, and a few cousins too

There’s my best friend Sherry

Who parted way too soon

Gosh I sure do miss you

Age is catching up with me

Makes it easier to believe

In a life that follows after

Yes, I can see

Large tables

Where loved ones gather

Y’all save me a seat

I’ll be along in a little while

Live Life

The hardest part is deciding

Deciding how I would really like

Like to life my life

Life has taught me hard lessons

Lessons of not attaching

Attaching to things or people

People come and go

Go and leave dreams broken

Broken dreams make it hard

Hard to decide how

How I would really like to live my life

Life was made to be lived

Lived to the fullest including pain

Pain eventually fades

Fades and gives way to hope

Hope in the future and a better time

Time to decide

Decide and imagine

Imagine and live

Live life to its fullest
