Power to Decide

Some mistake my quietness

Regarding the political realm

As dis-interest or

Ambivalence

When in fact I hold

A very solid stance

Political power

Like many other things

Is a double edged sword

Your vote

Is your personal defense

Against those things

Which you don’t agree with

Or your personal offense

For those things

Which you do agree with

Or vise versa

But the world is tricky

It can easily

Manipulate your mind

And before you know it

Someone else is using your vote

As part of their offensive plan

Accurately educating yourself

On important issues is difficult

In the current fake news

Ever screaming wolf

Finger pointing and accusing

Stream of

Never ending negativity

Displayed in every form

Visual, audible, written

It’s easy to hear

The loudest message

It’s difficult to invest

Precious time

Sifting thru the barrage

To determine what is real

And what is garbage

Try to find the time

Shut out the world

Educate yourself

Exercise your power

Or keep your sword sheathed

Either way

The power of your vote

Can end up

Disempowering you

What’s your passion?

Note to self:

Don’t get so busy making a living that you forget to live the life you were created to live. You’ve only got a few years left. What is your passion? Do that.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Youthful Memories

Apparently the Officer that stopped me for speeding was unaware that the speed limit changes when you’re listening to AC/DC. His annoyed response was, “I’ll tell you what I do know, if you don’t slow down you won’t be Back-in-Black, you’ll be Arriving-in-Blue, as in the backseat of my patrol car.”

….possible memory from my youth while driving a brown 1978 Trans-Am with the T-tops off, AC/DC blasting over the sound system, and trying to get a friend home before curfew.

Thanksgiving Day 2019

It was a quick trip

But well worth it

Great food

A new friend

Precious family

Crafts with my niece

Playing checkers and Chess

History lessons

Great discussions

And a lovely piano concert

Topped off with delicious

Home made pies

Then it was time

To say our goodbyes

Until next time

When into Tulsa I will fly

Getting Ready

“Slap some bacon on a biscuit and let’s go! We’er burnin’ daylight!”

I think of this quote sometimes when I’m getting ready for work early in the morning and I silently reply to the character Wil Andersen that John Wayne played in The Cowboys (one of my favorite movies), “What you talkin’ about Wil, ain’t no daylight bein’ burnt around here, it doesn’t come up for two more hours!”

Pick It Up

On my way to work this morning I stopped to get a cup of coffee and found this penny. I always pick up pennies or other coins now regardless of what side is facing up. When I was young I heard that a face up coin was good luck but a face down coin was bad luck. If I ran across one that was face down I started turning it face up so the next person would pick it up for good luck. Now that I am older I pick them all up regardless of which way they are facing because I have learned to forget foolish superstition and read the penny. Look at what it says:

IN GOD WE TRUST.

Priceless.

Thank you Lord for every surprise penny, every reminder, you place in my path that If I put my trust in You, You will take care of me.

Stillness

Little bird

Perched on a branch

Surveying the countryside

Like you own this ranch

What’s running through

Your tiny bird brain

How are you so comfortable

Just sitting there

In the snow or in the rain

I wish I could be so content

Sitting peacefully still

Instead of flitting around

Until my energy is all spent
