Lost in the act of doing

We can get caught up
Trying to pull someone
Out of a dark place

We must remember
To take care of ourselves
While we are helping them

Their pain and sadness
May cut to our core
Because we’ve been
Where they are before

We comprehend the depth
That darkness can sink
A spirit down to

We feel compelled
To act
To do something
So we pull

With whatever we have
Our time, our finances
Our love

It’s easy to lose sight
Of protecting ourselves
While we are helping
Someone else

Lost in the act of doing
We forget the only way
To overcome darkness

They must see the light
