Humans have the most resilient hearts. We give huge chunks of it away, with the romantic idea that the one we love will stay. There are a fortunate few who do live happily ever after. But many of us fail. We break, we heal, we try again. Handing over another piece of ourselves, hopeful that the soul receiving it will comprehend how precious and fragile the pieces have become. With each relationship that ends our heart feels dissected, cut up, at an end. Then we patch it up, and rejuvenate a section, in order to give again. Each time our heart breaks we stand amazed when eventually it whispers, “Lets try again.” It’s actually quite amazing, the strength a heart can have.
Added to the broken mess inside our chest, we often have to overcome the devastating loss of our most precious loved ones, who leave us behind, and journey to the other side, put on their wings, and take flight. While our heart goes on relentlessly beating. Forcing us to keep going. Moving us through each day. Mired down in an obstacle course of memories we persevere until the obstacles fade and turn into little hurdles. Then Christmas bells start to chime and we are reminded by Father Time of what used to be, that shall be no more.
Yes, humans have the most resilient heart.
