Running in the Cold

An excerpt from a conversation this morning when an old friend called to chide me about running in the cold.

Jethro: “Ten degrees is pretty cold for an old southwest Florida native like you Miss Ann.” 🌴

Me: “Yes, it’s pretty cold” ❄️

Jethro: “The summer heat in Texas must have fried your brains, why are you out there runnin’ in this weather?” 🔥

Me: “I’m not really sure why. Do you have any suggestions for how to keep my fingers warm? My work gloves aren’t designed for warmth and the local stores are sold out of winter gloves. I will order some but need a solution in the meantime.” 🧤

Jethro: “Well, I don’t know much about runnin’ but I don’t think you need your fingers much, what if you used a pair of those new thermal socks you just got as mittens?” 🧦

Me: “That’s actually a good idea. I think that will work until I get some gloves! 💡

Jethro: “I’ve been known to have a good idea every once in a while.” 😎

Me: “I suppose, but don’t you keep trying to lie about not having any running experience.” 🏃🏻‍♂️

Jethro: “Miss Ann when have you ever seen me run?” ⁉️

Me: “Well, I haven’t actually seen you doing it, but I heard from a good source that you were running fast, out the back door, when Jessica’s boyfriend was walking in the front one.” 🚪

Jethro: chuckling “Well that tale is partially true, but we was in a barn, in the loft, and I had to shimmy down a post while he was climbing up the ladder. I got a few splinter scars to show for it. My horse was tied up out back so I didn’t have far to run. 🐴

Me: “Cowboy you can be a true rogue sometimes. You better be careful, that fella is twice your size. Splinters aren’t all you might get in the next tale of you trying to get some…love.” 🤣

Jethro: “Go ahead and laugh Miss Ann. I’m in a loft gettin’ some warm lovin’ while you’re runnin’ in the freezin’ cold wearin’ socks for gloves. Bye!” 🤠

Swim

Christmas time
Is floating past
Reminding us
The year is ending fast
It will soon be time
To take stock and do
A 365 day review
Will this year end
On track
Or off
For you

Christmas reminds us of many things: the value of family, friends, love, and precious gifts unseen. It also reminds us there is only one week left in the year. We have either made progress on our hopes, dreams, and goals or watched them sink into that endless hole of “tomorrow I will start, tomorrow I will do that, tomorrow….”

Maybe you’ve reached some of your goals.

Maybe life took some of your hope away unexpectedly.

Maybe some of your dreams are stuck in tomorrow land.

As the last week of this year sails in, why not set an intention, dive in, plan to achieve your wildest dreams in 2023?

“Stop waiting for your ship to come in. Dive in. Swim out and get it!”

Matthew 7:7&8

Claim your Key

What binds you
Locks you down
Hinders you
Keeps you from achieving
Your highest and best self

Words are powerful
They creep into your mind
Take shape in your reality
If your heart believes them

Guard your heart
Renew your mind

Ignore negative words
From others
End self defeating talk
In your own mind

Claim your key
The gift of authority
To release yourself
And bind that which
Seeks to steal, kill, destroy

The Messenger arrived
In the form of a child
Grew into a miracle worker
Was sacrificed for you

Your ability thru Him
Has boundless power
Knowledge, understanding Wisdom, creativity and love

Break your locks
Live free

Proverbs 4:23
Romans 12:2
Matthew 16:19
John 3:16

are you a wing or a weight ?

Think about your words.

Are you a wing or a weight?

Do your words lift others up or tear them down?

The tongue is a two edged sword. We can use it to speak life or to bring destruction. There are times when destruction is called for but today focus on lifting at least one person up.

This world bombards us with messages of hopelessness. What might happen if every Believer encouraged at least one person each day? We have the gift of hope to share with a hopeless world.

Let us enter into our prayer closet to do battle, then come out and spread hope around like confetti wherever our feet or our wheels take us.

Be a wing today, lift someone up

Pieces of thoughts

Pieces

Fragments

Dividing

Moving

Dimming light into darkness

Changing darkness into light

Our brain

Has many chambers

Impacting all areas of our life

Our mind

Drifts in and out

Of these chambers

What we focus on

Can bring us down or lift us up

Our thoughts are dynamic

We control our mind

We can change our thoughts

And thereby change our lives

Rebel

Nature shows us

There is a need for

Universal rules

As part of the

Ordered chaos

Supporting all forms of life

On our planet

I respect nature’s rules

And I try to abide by

Spiritual ones

But I will always

Rebel against

Certain rules of man

The ones that limit us

From being all that we can

Fence sitting before flight

Perched precariously

Between two futures

Straddling the fence

Not knowing which way to go

Wanting to sit comfortably still

Resting for a spell

Knowing I never will

Praying for direction

Before I take flight

It’s time to catch the wind

Spread my wings

And soar to new heights

Aging female songs

Perimenopause

Menopause

Postmenopause

Songs of an aging female

Life plays many versions of these tunes

Whether we like them or not

Expanding

Contracting

Expanding

Like an accordion

Our bodies are constantly changing

Often beyond our control

Life pushes our buttons

Squeezes

Pulls

Pushes some more

Keeping us ever wondering

What version of the song comes next

Good nutrition

Faithful exercise

Prayer and meditation

Cannot always sway

The radical hormonal changes

Life keeps playing, and playing, and playing

I am like an accordion

Trying to play my own tune, see a smaller point on the scale

But my hormones have shifted (again)

Now they prefer to expand

I am soaked thru with sweat, frustration, and a primal cry

Life doesn’t listen, it simply hangs me out to dry

This version

We are constantly transforming:
physically,
emotionally,
intellectually,
spiritually.

We don’t notice the small changes that are constantly happening until we look in the mirror one day and realize how quickly
all those little changes
have become visible.

Distractions abound. We are often focused on a chore, task, errand, goal while time keeps marching on and life keeps transforming with each passing year. Not just for us but for our loved ones too.

Sometimes the changes are subtle, sometimes profound, sometimes devastating. We never really know what any given day may bring our way.

Let’s take some time to appreciate the current version
of ourselves,
our family,
our friends,
our life.

Un-hurry yourself

Honey child
Your energy introduces you
Before you even speak
Un-hurry yourself

In this age of speed
Where we are bombarded
With information
It is invigorating to
Slow down
Rest your brain a minute
Or longer

In this age of distraction
Turn off the noise and chatter
Focus on this moment
Hear the whisper
Of your own soul
Bask in the luxury
Of awareness

In this age of constant
Movement
Where being busy is idolized
Allow yourself to hit pause
Find a comfortable place to sit
“Do” nothing
Just “be”

High speed internet, busyness
An overfilled schedule
Are all obstacles to attaining
Whatever you are seeking
It’s counterintuitive but it works
Take time to do nothing
And something will occur

Uncomfortable
Yes, sitting with yourself
With your own thoughts
Disconnected from the
Digital world
Listening to your soul
Can be very uncomfortable

The more uncomfortable it is
The more you need it
So take time for yourself
Let go of the pressure to be
Constantly busy
Disconnect
To truly connect

Honey child
You are enough just as you are
But if you insist on being more
Un-hurry yourself
